YOUNG MUSLIM ASSOCIATION & GARISSA MUSLIM CHILDREN'S HOME
ORPHAN AND CHILD CARE
This is the section that provides care and protection
to the orphans. The children who currently number
350 come from different backgrounds and communities
all over Kenya.
The children are provided with services such
as accommodation, food, clothing and medical care.
The very young ones are looked after by Ayyahs
(caretaker mothers) who keep their clothes, stationery
and also bathe them.
The children are currently distributed to 4 dormitories
and are placed according to their ages. Each dormitory
has a housemaster who looks after their daily
activities with a keen eye.
All the activities of the children are closely
monitored. This includes their learning, discipline,
health and worship. This section is headed by
a warden who coordinates the activities of the
department.
The Children's Home is expected to be a substitute
home for the children. Their programme is generally
relaxed and all effort is being made to give them
the warmth and security that every child gets
at the normal home.
