YOUNG MUSLIM ASSOCIATION & GARISSA MUSLIM CHILDREN'S HOME
WAQF WATER PROJECTS
Water is a basic need and clean water is an essential ingredient of a
healthy life. Nevertheless, as much as it is a basic need, it also a scarce
resource. The Association has seen it necessary to draw the attention of
donors towards the provision of clean water to needy communities.
One of the ways identified and implemented by the association is the drilling
of shallow wells. This involves the digging or drilling of a hole about 30-60 ft
deep in areas where the water table is is near. The top of the hole is
then cemented and fitted (where applicable) with hand pump.
Such projects are usually located near rivers. The Association has so far put
up on behalf of various donors close to 100 shallow wells mainly along rive
Tana on both sides of Garissa and Tana river Districts.
These shallow wells have been a big relief to the beneficiary communities
since the benefits associated with them are:-
1.Getting of clean water.
2.Reducing the risk of crocodile attacks.
3.Reducing the risk of drawning.
4.Reducing the distance and burden on women and girls who draw water from the rivers.
