In 1968, after war had ravaged North-Eastern Kenya, YMA members travelled to Garissa and found countless people made homeless and without support; chiefly among whom were an untold number of orphans who were in the most vulnerable of states. This started off efforts by the Association to set up an orphanage and outreach programs to support and steadily improve the lives of thousands of children over the coming years.
Young Muslim Association (YMA) is dully registered under the Non-Governmental Organization Coordination Act ,1994.
Young Muslim Association’s longest running and most important project, is the Young Muslim Children’s Home (YMCH) in Garissa, North Eastern Kenya. This project was started in 1969. We strive to provide quality home care and education, both Islamic and secular, to orphan boys from the age of 6 years until they reach 18 years. During this period, the orphans are fully sponsored in their education by attending Young Muslim Academy and Young Muslim High School
